“Within the digital realm of the CD-ROM or website. Paul Wong and Elspeth Sage’s On Edge On Line Retrospective 1985-1999 published by On Edge presents the substantive work of Paul Wong and Elspeth Sage within digital space or place, revealing a thread which traces Vancouver as place in exhibition time, as their projects move in and out of the city, in and out of Canada, but which reference the place of Vancouver, and indicate the place of the artist as researched, as curator. The site documents the myriad of On Edge projects in Canada, South Africa, Hong Kong, and the U.K. including those with the U.K. collective Locus Plus. The site itself can be seen as art as social document. Since this website is place, perhaps I can make some tour guide suggestions. Make sure to visit Jazz Slave Ships, Witness, I Burn, an installation and performance by Jan Wade. As well, consider going to the Feng Shui Touring Exhibition with the work of Lani Maestro, Henry Tsang, Sharyn Yuen and Paul Wong, then wander into the publication catalogue with the essay by Elspeth Sage: tour with the tour to Newcastle, Dublin, Derry. The website presents the range of On Edge activities: ‘exhibitions import, exhibitions export, performances, publications, artists’ index’ and also a now familiar item in websites, a store. The On Edge mandate as expressed by Elspeth Sage and Paul Wong is to present “cross cultural work that challenges ideas and attitudes of what constitutes art”. Within the marketplace of digital space and the artworld, this site is important to witness.”
